Global Video Market Set to Hit $1 Trillion by 2030, Driven by Streaming Growth and Ad-Supported Models

The global video industry is headed for a trillion-dollar milestone. According to new research from Omdia, the combined revenue from online video and traditional TV—including subscriptions, on-demand transactions, and advertising—is projected to surpass $1 trillion annually by 2030.

The insight comes from two fresh reports—Global Streaming: Key Trends 2025–30 and Pay TV & Online Video: Global—that paint a picture of an evolving yet stable entertainment economy. While traditional pay TV remains flat, streaming continues to surge, carrying nearly all the growth momentum in the global video ecosystem.

Streaming Takes the Lead

Omdia projects global video streaming revenue to reach $214.6 billion by 2025, growing at a 12.8% annual rate. Subscriptions will continue to dominate the model, accounting for 77% of total streaming revenue, while premium ad-supported video—including hybrid SVOD/AVOD services, native AVOD, FAST, and broadcaster-led platforms—will contribute an estimated $42.1 billion worldwide, up 15.6% from 2024.

“Traditional pay TV is declining globally, but slowly,” said Adam Thomas, Practice Leader at Omdia. “Pay TV will still generate substantial revenue for years. When combined with strong online video growth, this creates a highly positive scenario leading to $1 trillion by 2030.”

The Subscription Plateau

The streaming economy remains, for now, a subscription-first business. But the report signals a potential slowdown ahead as major markets reach saturation.

“Streaming continues to grow steadily, but we’re nearing mass-market penetration,” said Tony Gunnarsson, Principal Analyst at Omdia. “Growth rates will taper as the market matures, even as total revenues expand.”

In other words, the streaming boom isn’t over—but its hypergrowth era might be. The next decade will likely be about optimization, retention, and diversification, not just expansion.

The Ad-Supported Evolution

Hybrid monetization models—once viewed as optional—are now emerging as a strategic necessity. Omdia’s data shows that ad-supported streaming will play an increasingly vital role through 2030, particularly for global giants experimenting with tiered offerings.

Advertising revenue from the “big five” U.S. SVOD services—Netflix, Amazon, Disney, HBO Max, and Paramount—is forecast to reach $24.3 billion by 2030, representing 20% of combined revenue, up from 13% in 2025.

“While streaming remains subscription-led, the shift to include advertising tiers has paid off handsomely,” added Gunnarsson.
