Albertsons Media Collective has launched a retail media measurement solution designed to show advertisers the incremental contribution of media exposures across multiple digital channels through a single, deduplicated view. Developed with LiveRamp, the Retail Media Incrementality-Based Multi-Touch Attribution solution connects impression-level exposure data with Albertsons transaction data to help brands evaluate how different media touchpoints contribute to sales.
Retail media measurement is becoming more complicated as advertisers distribute budgets across retailer-owned properties, social platforms, programmatic inventory and other digital channels. Reporting from each platform can show what happened within an individual environment, but it does not necessarily reveal how exposures across those environments worked together to influence a purchase.
Albertsons Media Collective is addressing that problem with a new attribution capability built in collaboration with LiveRamp. The companies describe the initiative as a first-to-market, grocery-exclusive collaboration, powered by LiveRamp’s Cross-Media Intelligence infrastructure.
The solution brings together impression-level exposure information from Albertsons Media Collective’s owned and operated channels, offsite media and participating platforms and inventory sources. The announcement names Meta, Display & Video 360, Google Ad Manager and Perion among the participating environments.
That exposure data is connected with Albertsons transaction data in what the companies describe as a neutral, privacy-conscious environment. The objective is to give advertisers a consistent framework for examining the relationship between media exposure and purchases without relying exclusively on reporting from individual platforms.
The distinction between attribution and incrementality is important. Traditional attribution can assign credit to touchpoints associated with a conversion, while incrementality analysis attempts to determine whether media exposure produced additional outcomes that would not otherwise have occurred.
Albertsons Media Collective’s solution combines that incremental perspective with multi-touch measurement. Advertisers can therefore examine the customer journey across multiple exposures rather than treating the last interaction before a purchase as the primary source of credit.
For retail media networks, transaction data is a particularly important part of this equation. Retailers have direct visibility into purchases, but connecting that information with advertising exposure across external media environments has historically involved fragmented datasets, platform-specific methodologies and privacy constraints.
The new capability is intended to bridge that gap by using Albertsons transaction data alongside cross-media exposure information. In practical terms, brands and agencies can use the resulting view to examine which touchpoints contributed incremental sales and how different media investments interacted across the customer journey.
PepsiCo is an early pilot partner. According to Albertsons Media Collective, the consumer packaged goods company is using the solution to understand incremental media impact across channels while reducing reporting complexity and supporting faster optimization decisions.
The launch also builds on Albertsons Media Collective’s earlier on-site incrementality work, extending measurement beyond the retailer’s own digital properties.
The development comes as retail media increasingly competes for a larger share of brand advertising budgets. As networks expand their off-site and cross-channel capabilities, the ability to demonstrate incremental sales rather than simply report impressions, clicks or attributed conversions is becoming an important part of the measurement conversation.
The broader challenge is standardization. Advertisers operating across multiple retail media networks and external platforms need measurement frameworks that can be compared across environments rather than another layer of proprietary reporting.
Albertsons Media Collective’s approach does not eliminate that industry-wide challenge, but it illustrates how retailers are attempting to turn their transaction data into a broader measurement asset. By combining purchase information with cross-media exposure data, the network is positioning incrementality as a central component of retail media accountability.
Market Landscape
Retail media is moving from an audience-extension business toward a measurement-intensive advertising channel. Retailers possess valuable first-party purchase data, while advertisers increasingly want to connect that data with exposure across CTV, social, programmatic and other digital environments.
Multi-touch attribution and incrementality are two approaches being used to address this challenge, although they answer different measurement questions. A unified cross-media framework can help advertisers move beyond isolated platform metrics, while transaction-level data provides a direct connection between advertising activity and commercial outcomes.
Albertsons Media Collective’s launch reflects this shift by combining retail transaction data with impression-level media exposure across participating platforms. Its PepsiCo pilot also provides an early enterprise use case for the technology.
