Quartile is expanding its retail media advertising technology into ChatGPT, becoming a technology partner that enables participating advertisers to manage ChatGPT Ads through its existing workflows. The move connects an established commerce-focused optimization platform with an emerging advertising environment where consumers can research products, compare alternatives and make purchase decisions through conversational AI.
The next battleground for product discovery may look less like a search-results page and more like a conversation.
Quartile, a retail media optimization platform, is adding support for advertising in ChatGPT, giving participating brands a way to incorporate the emerging channel into their existing advertising operations. The partnership extends Quartile’s technology beyond established commerce and digital advertising channels into an AI-native environment.
The timing reflects a broader shift in how advertising platforms are being built around conversational discovery. OpenAI says ChatGPT Ads are designed to appear separately from ChatGPT’s answers and are clearly labeled, with the advertising system using contextual signals to determine ad relevance and delivery.
For advertisers, that creates a different operating model from conventional keyword-based search.
A shopper might ask ChatGPT to compare products, explain differences between competing options or recommend products for a particular need. Instead of matching an isolated search query, advertising can operate within a broader conversational context. OpenAI’s current system supports impression- and click-based buying as well as conversion optimization for supported events.
Quartile’s role is to connect that new channel with the workflows retailers and brands already use.
The company’s ChatGPT Ads offering includes campaign activation, product-feed preparation, conversion tracking and optimization. Quartile says its platform can organize product information such as imagery, titles, copy and destination URLs for ChatGPT campaigns, while connecting advertising activity with commerce data.
That is important because adding another advertising destination can create operational complexity. Retail advertisers already manage campaigns across environments such as Amazon Ads, Walmart Connect, paid search and other digital channels. A new AI advertising surface becomes more useful when campaign data, product information and performance measurement can be handled without creating an entirely separate workflow.
OpenAI has been building a partner ecosystem around ChatGPT Ads for the same reason. Its May 2026 announcement identified technology partners including Adobe, Criteo, Kargo, Pacvue and StackAdapt, while saying those partners could help advertisers work through existing processes for budgeting, bidding and creative. OpenAI’s advertising system remains responsible for delivery decisions.
The competitive question is therefore shifting from whether ChatGPT can become another advertising channel to how easily brands can integrate it into an existing media stack.
For Quartile, the opportunity is particularly relevant to commerce advertisers because product discovery is central to the platform’s existing use case. The company says it manages billions of dollars in annual advertising spend across commerce and digital channels, although those figures are company-reported.
ChatGPT Ads is also moving beyond an experimental niche. OpenAI said in August that ChatGPT Ads had reached a $1 billion annualized revenue run rate in fewer than 200 days and that more than 50 technology and measurement partners were participating in its ecosystem. Those are OpenAI-reported figures, not independent market measurements.
For enterprise advertising teams, the practical challenge will be measurement. Brands will need to determine how conversational discovery contributes to consideration and conversion, how it should be budgeted against search and retail media, and whether performance remains incremental as the channel scales.
Quartile’s expansion places it directly within that emerging layer of the advertising stack: helping commerce brands bring product data, campaign management and optimization into an AI-driven discovery environment.
Market Landscape
ChatGPT Ads represents a new category of conversational advertising, sitting between traditional search advertising, commerce media and AI-powered product discovery.
OpenAI has expanded ChatGPT Ads through direct buying, agency relationships and technology integrations. Its current platform supports contextual ad matching, impression and click buying, conversion optimization, product feeds and other campaign controls.
The development creates a new question for retail media platforms: whether optimization tools built around marketplaces and conventional digital channels can also help advertisers operate effectively when consumers discover products through natural-language conversations.
For retailers and brands, the important metrics will extend beyond clicks. Product-feed quality, qualified traffic, conversion signals, incremental sales and the relationship between paid exposure and organic AI recommendations could all become important parts of the measurement framework.
