Nick Brien Named OAAA Chairman Nick Brien Named OAAA Chairman

The Out of Home Advertising Association of America (OAAA) has appointed OUTFRONT Media CEO Nick Brien as chairman of its board of directors, placing an experienced advertising and media executive at the center of the industry’s efforts to advance digital transformation, measurement and advertiser confidence.

Brien succeeds Scott Wells, former CEO of Clear Channel Outdoor Holdings, and will complete Wells’ current term through May 2027. The appointment comes as out-of-home (OOH) advertising operators seek to strengthen the medium’s position within omnichannel media strategies and demonstrate its value to brand marketers and agencies.

OAAA represents the U.S. out-of-home advertising industry, with priorities spanning government affairs, research, measurement, industry standards and engagement with advertisers. Brien’s appointment gives the association a leader whose experience covers outdoor media, advertising technology, creative services and media agency operations.

Leadership Focuses on Digital Transformation and Measurement

Brien currently serves as CEO of OUTFRONT Media and sits on OAAA’s executive committee. Before joining OUTFRONT, he held leadership positions at Dentsu, McCann Worldgroup, IPG Mediabrands and Amobee, spanning advertising, marketing services and technology.

In announcing his appointment, Brien identified digital transformation, stronger measurement and greater trust in OOH as priorities. He argued that the medium’s physical presence and reach could remain valuable in an increasingly fragmented media environment.

For the industry, these priorities have practical implications. Advertisers increasingly need comparable evidence to evaluate media channels, allocate budgets and assess campaign performance. Stronger measurement frameworks can help OOH operators explain campaign reach and effectiveness within broader media plans.

Digital out-of-home (DOOH) also introduces opportunities for more flexible campaign scheduling, digital inventory management and data-informed media buying. However, the announcement did not introduce a specific measurement product, advertising technology platform or new industry standard. Brien’s appointment is a leadership development rather than a direct technology launch.

OAAA Continues Industry Modernisation Efforts

Brien succeeds Wells, who chaired the association’s board from March 2023 and has served as a director since 2015. During Wells’ tenure as chairman, OAAA strengthened industry advocacy, expanded engagement with advertisers and agencies, and advanced initiatives intended to support OOH’s modernisation.

OAAA President and CEO Anna Bager said Brien’s cross-industry experience would help strengthen relationships with the broader marketing community and advance priorities shared by members, brand marketers and agency leaders.

The association’s board provides strategic oversight across government affairs, research and measurement, industry standards and industry engagement. These responsibilities are relevant to a sector in which advertisers need confidence in how inventory is evaluated, campaigns are measured and results are communicated.

Market Landscape

OOH competes for marketing budgets alongside digital display, social media, search, connected TV and other media channels. Its physical placements provide a different advertising environment from screen-based digital platforms, while DOOH adds digital delivery and campaign-management capabilities to outdoor inventory.

For media buyers, the central challenge is integrating OOH into cross-channel planning and determining how it contributes to campaign reach and business objectives. Consistent measurement, transparent reporting and clearer connections between campaign exposure and outcomes can support that process.

Brien’s experience across media agencies, advertising technology and outdoor media could help OAAA engage stakeholders across this ecosystem. Nevertheless, the appointment alone does not establish how quickly industry-wide measurement or technology initiatives will progress.

Strategic Outlook

Brien’s chairmanship places measurement and digital modernisation prominently on OAAA’s agenda through May 2027. The association’s ability to coordinate operators, agencies, advertisers and technology providers will be important as OOH seeks a stronger role in data-informed media planning.

For AdTech companies, agencies and outdoor media owners, the broader opportunity is to make OOH easier to plan, evaluate and compare with other channels without overlooking its distinct physical context.

The appointment signals continuity in OAAA’s modernisation agenda, backed by leadership experience across advertising and media technology. Its significance will ultimately depend on the initiatives the association advances and the practical improvements those efforts deliver for advertisers.
