Malaysia’s printing and packaging industries are putting automation, AI-enabled inspection, digital production, and sustainable manufacturing under the spotlight as IPMEX Malaysia 2026 opens at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC).

The 16th International Printing, Paper, Packaging Machinery Exhibition runs from August 12 to 15 under the theme “Print Package Possibility.” Organized by Kaizer Exhibitions & Conferences Sdn Bhd, the event brings together printing, packaging, labeling, signage, and textile-printing companies at a time when manufacturers are under growing pressure to produce shorter runs, reduce waste, improve energy efficiency, and deliver increasingly customized products.

The exhibition has been endorsed by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), supported by the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), and backed by 15 industry associations.

For the broader technology ecosystem, IPMEX offers a window into how industrial printing is moving beyond conventional presses toward connected production environments where automation, computer vision, digital workflows, and variable-data technologies increasingly determine productivity.

IPMEX Expands Beyond Traditional Printing Machinery

IPMEX Malaysia 2026 occupies approximately 12,530 square meters and features 214 exhibitors, including 90 international companies and 124 Malaysian companies.

Participants from China, Italy, South Korea, Singapore, the United States, and Malaysia are showcasing equipment and technologies across the printing and packaging value chain. Organizers expect approximately 13,389 trade visitors over the four-day event.

That international mix positions the exhibition as more than a machinery showcase. Printers, converters, brand owners, sign makers, distributors, and procurement teams can evaluate equipment alongside production technologies, materials, software, and finishing systems.

The shift reflects a wider transformation in industrial printing.

Traditional production models were optimized for relatively long runs and standardized output. Today’s packaging and commercial-printing markets increasingly demand customization, shorter production cycles, variable content, rapid turnaround, and tighter control over material consumption.

Digital printing and automated finishing systems are helping manufacturers respond to those requirements without relying entirely on large-volume production runs.

IPMEX is co-located with Sign Malaysia Exhibition, creating another layer to the event’s technology ecosystem.

Sign Malaysia operates under the theme “LED Light Up the City” and sits alongside dedicated zones for Label & Flexible Packaging and Textile Print.

The combined structure connects industrial printing with signage, digital displays, advertising media, and packaging applications.

That convergence is becoming increasingly relevant for brands and commercial operators. The same production ecosystem can now support packaging, promotional materials, retail graphics, illuminated signage, textile applications, and personalized print.

For advertisers and brand owners, this creates opportunities to coordinate physical marketing assets with broader campaigns.

A product launch, for example, may require packaging, retail displays, outdoor signage, promotional materials, and personalized merchandise. Digital printing technologies can allow these assets to be produced with more variable content and shorter lead times.

For Malaysian and regional businesses, the ability to compare these technologies in one location can reduce the complexity involved in evaluating new production infrastructure.

Business-matching programs, live demonstrations, and networking events are also intended to connect technology suppliers with distributors, production companies, brand owners, and buyers.

That matters for SMEs in particular.
