Sony Electronics and VITEC are combining professional displays with IPTV and digital signage software in a global collaboration designed to remove a familiar piece of hardware from large-scale digital media deployments: the external media player.
The companies announced an integration between Sony BRAVIA Professional Displays and VITEC’s Avedia IPTV and digital signage platform. The system runs VITEC’s player software directly on the Android-based displays, using the screens’ built-in system-on-chip (SoC) rather than requiring a separate playback device.
For businesses operating hundreds or thousands of screens, that change could have practical implications. Eliminating external players can reduce hardware requirements, simplify installation and potentially lower maintenance and total ownership costs.
The combined platform is aimed at corporate environments, hospitality, entertainment venues, healthcare organizations and public facilities where organizations increasingly use screens for live television, internal communications, wayfinding, advertising and other real-time content.
