Statements Media Expands Programmatic DOOH Across Toronto Parking Garages

Parking garages are becoming another piece of the programmable advertising infrastructure. Statements Media has launched a network of large-format digital video walls across Green P parking facilities in Toronto, giving advertisers access to high-resolution digital out-of-home inventory in heavily trafficked locations across the city’s core.

The network brings digital screens into an environment that has traditionally relied on static posters, murals and other fixed advertising formats, while introducing capabilities such as day-parting, dynamic creative and programmatic media buying.

Statements Media says the new network is the first of its kind in Canada focused specifically on reaching vehicle owners through large-format digital displays inside urban parking facilities.

The displays are positioned near entrances and exits at Green P locations covering areas including Yorkville, Toronto’s Financial District, Yonge & Eglinton, St. Lawrence Market and Sankofa Square. Each LED installation covers more than 30 square feet, creating a substantially larger digital canvas than conventional indoor digital signage.

Green P is operated by the Toronto Parking Authority, which runs one of North America’s largest municipally owned commercial parking operations. According to Statements Media, the network processes more than 2 million parking transactions each month.

For advertisers, the more significant change is not simply replacing a printed poster with an LED screen. Digital inventory can be scheduled, updated and optimized without physically replacing creative, allowing media owners to sell the same physical location in different configurations throughout the day.

Statements Media says the new displays will support day-parting and dynamic creative and will be available through leading programmatic platforms. That brings parking-garage advertising closer to the operating model already used across digital out-of-home networks, where advertisers can purchase inventory based on location, timing, audience considerations and campaign requirements.

The company has operated static advertising units in Green P garages since 2012. The digital rollout expands an existing network rather than creating an entirely new media footprint. Statements Media says the combined offering will exceed 160 advertising faces across posters, murals, backlit vertical displays, static dominations and the new digital units.

That transition is significant for the broader DOOH market. Digital screens give media owners greater flexibility to manage inventory while allowing agencies and advertisers to build OOH placements into more automated media strategies.

The format also creates new opportunities for creative optimization. A brand could, for example, use different messages during morning and evening periods, rotate campaigns according to scheduled events or adjust creative without sending production teams to individual locations.

Programmatic availability is particularly important as advertisers increasingly seek to combine physical-world media with digital campaign planning. Rather than treating a parking garage as an isolated advertising placement, buyers can potentially incorporate its inventory into broader DOOH strategies spanning roadside screens, transit environments, retail locations and other place-based media.

For enterprise advertisers, however, scale alone is unlikely to determine the value of the inventory. Measurement, audience verification, frequency management and integration with existing demand-side platforms will remain important as more physical advertising becomes digitally addressable.

Statements Media says it plans to add more large-format digital panels across downtown Toronto during the coming year. If that expansion continues, the Green P network could become part of a broader shift toward digitized urban media infrastructure in which previously static environments become programmable advertising surfaces.

Market Landscape

Digital out-of-home advertising is moving beyond the traditional billboard model as media owners digitize inventory across transportation, retail, hospitality, roadside and other physical environments.

Programmatic DOOH allows buyers to automate parts of the planning and purchasing process and connect physical advertising inventory with broader digital media strategies. The IAB Tech Lab’s OpenRTB for Digital Out-of-Home specification is designed to support interoperability between DOOH inventory and programmatic advertising systems.

The evolution is also creating a new set of requirements for advertisers. Digital screens can increase creative flexibility and inventory utilization, but buyers need reliable information about screen locations, audience exposure, campaign delivery and measurement.

Toronto’s parking infrastructure represents a particularly interesting environment because consumers are stationary while entering or leaving facilities, giving advertisers an opportunity to deliver large-format messaging at predictable physical locations.

Statements Media’s rollout therefore illustrates a broader AdTech trend: digitization is changing not only what an outdoor advertisement looks like, but how the inventory can be bought, scheduled and integrated into modern media planning.
