Intent IQ has launched BidPulse™, a patent-pending methodology designed to independently measure the accuracy of online identifiers attached to programmatic bid requests. Available through BidPulse.org, the service is intended to help advertisers, publishers and ad-tech companies evaluate identity signals used for targeting, frequency capping and attribution.
The launch addresses a persistent challenge in identity-based advertising: an identifier attached to a bid request may not accurately represent the device, individual or household generating the impression. When identity signals are incorrectly bridged, advertisers can potentially make bidding decisions against an audience that is not actually present.
BidPulse attempts to quantify that problem using a location-based methodology rather than relying solely on identity providers’ own accuracy claims.
How BidPulse Measures Identity Accuracy
The methodology compares the location associated with a programmatic bid request with the previous 30 days of location history for the online identifier or a cookie associated with that identifier.
Intent IQ says the bid-request location is determined through reverse IP lookup of fixed-line IP addresses. When an identifier has sufficient location history but has not appeared within 100 miles of the bid-request location during the preceding 30 days, BidPulse classifies the identifier as being associated with a different household.
The company selected 100 miles as its primary threshold and also publishes results using 50-mile and 25-mile thresholds. Intent IQ says the consistency of its results across those thresholds supports the accuracy of the underlying reverse-IP location methodology, although that conclusion comes from the company’s own analysis.
Two Measures of Identity Quality
BidPulse uses two metrics to distinguish between an inaccurate bid request and individual inaccurate identifiers within a request.
The Strict Accuracy Score classifies an entire bid request as inaccurate when at least one identifier from a provider falls outside the specified geographic threshold.
The Proportional Accuracy Score instead measures the percentage of identifiers within each bid request that meet the geographic threshold.
For January through September 2026 at the 100-mile threshold, Intent IQ reports a 93% Strict Accuracy Score and 97.7% Proportional Accuracy Score for its own identity solution. It reports 46.6% and 51.6%, respectively, for LiveIntent, and 34% and 33.9% for ID5.
These figures are Intent IQ’s reported BidPulse results, not independently established industry benchmarks. The distinction is important because identity accuracy can vary according to methodology, inventory, geography, identifier type and measurement period.
Impact on Advertisers and Programmatic Buying
Identity accuracy directly affects how advertisers evaluate bid opportunities. An incorrect identifier can potentially introduce an audience associated with another household, creating uncertainty around targeting, frequency management and attribution.
BidPulse’s proportional methodology is particularly relevant to bid requests containing multiple bridged identifiers. Intent IQ argues that each inaccurate identifier can potentially introduce another incorrect audience signal, increasing the apparent value of an impression beyond what the actual user or household supports.
For advertisers and agencies, independent identity-quality measurement could therefore become another layer of media governance alongside fraud detection, verification and measurement.
Independent Verification
Intent IQ says an external software expert independently implemented the BidPulse methodology using Intent IQ data and replicated the company’s results.
The company is making both continuously monitored results and historical data available through BidPulse.org, with historical tracking beginning January 1, 2026. It is also inviting identity providers, publishers and advertising platforms to compare their own analyses against the methodology.
That invitation is significant because identity resolution remains an area where competing providers can use different datasets and methodologies. Broader participation could help determine whether BidPulse’s geographic test produces consistent results across providers and environments.
Strategic Outlook
The launch shifts part of the identity discussion from whether an identifier can be resolved to whether the resulting identity signal is sufficiently accurate for advertising decisions.
For programmatic buyers, that distinction has practical implications for targeting, frequency capping and attribution. For identity providers, independently measured accuracy could become an additional competitive consideration.
BidPulse’s longer-term value will depend on how widely the methodology is adopted, whether other providers participate in comparable testing and how well geographic proximity translates into actual household-level identity accuracy. Those questions will be important as the advertising ecosystem continues to balance addressability with measurement quality.
