Marketplace consultancy Podean has launched the fourth edition of The Marketplace Index 2026, an annual benchmark of Amazon brand performance developed with Amazon data platform Jungle Scout. The report evaluates more than 3,500 brands across six markets: Australia, Brazil, Germany, Mexico, the UK and the U.S.
The 2026 edition adds AI Readiness as a scoring pillar alongside Retail, Content, Customer and Media. The change reflects the growing importance of AI-assisted shopping and discovery in the path from product discovery to purchase.
Rather than measuring advertising performance in isolation, the index evaluates multiple components of marketplace performance. Its addition of AI readiness places discoverability within emerging AI-mediated shopping experiences alongside conventional Amazon retail and media considerations.
AI Readiness Enters Marketplace Measurement
The new scoring pillar is significant because product discovery is increasingly extending beyond conventional keyword search and sponsored placements. AI shopping assistants and discovery tools can change how consumers evaluate products, brands and product information.
Podean and Jungle Scout say the index uses Amazon data to benchmark brand, product, category and keyword performance. The report is intended to help brands compare themselves with competitors and identify areas for investment.
The companies have not disclosed the specific methodology or weighting assigned to the new AI Readiness pillar in the announcement. That limits direct comparison between AI readiness and the index’s other scoring dimensions, but its inclusion signals that marketplace optimization is moving toward a broader view of search, content and machine-readable product information.
Media and Content Remain Central
The report frames Amazon performance as a full-funnel exercise spanning retail execution, content, customer experience and media. For advertisers, that means marketplace advertising cannot be evaluated independently from the product pages and brand environments receiving that traffic.
The UK findings illustrate the relationship. Podean reports that the average UK brand scored 72% in 2026, unchanged from the previous year after rising from 61% in 2023.
Beauty categories led the UK results, with Hair Care, Skin Care and Makeup occupying the top three segment positions. Health & Personal Care also performed strongly, while Electronics and Fashion ranked closer to the bottom.
Podean says content was the largest driver of improvement, with brands investing in titles, descriptions, visual assets and storefronts.
Advertising and Commerce Implications
For brands and agencies managing Amazon media, the findings reinforce the importance of aligning paid media with the quality of the destination experience.
A sponsored product impression may generate attention, but conversion depends on the product information, creative assets, reviews, pricing and broader retail environment encountered after the click. AI-assisted discovery adds another potential layer because product information increasingly needs to support machine-mediated recommendations as well as human search behavior.
This makes marketplace advertising increasingly connected to retail media, commerce content and search optimization. The Marketplace Index’s combined scoring framework reflects that convergence.
Global Competitive Context
The index compares brands across six Amazon markets and tracks performance over a three-year period. Its global comparison component is designed to identify differences in performance standards between marketplaces and potential opportunities outside a brand’s home market.
For multinational advertisers, this type of benchmarking can help distinguish market-specific performance issues from broader brand-level weaknesses. A brand that performs strongly in one Amazon marketplace may still need different content, retail or media strategies elsewhere.
The involvement of Jungle Scout provides the underlying Amazon marketplace data used in the scoring model, while Podean contributes the benchmarking framework and marketplace strategy perspective.
Strategic Outlook
The addition of AI Readiness indicates that Amazon brand performance measurement is expanding beyond traditional retail media metrics. Brands increasingly need to consider how product information performs across paid media, marketplace search, retail experiences and emerging AI discovery interfaces.
The next challenge will be turning AI-readiness benchmarks into actionable standards. As AI shopping tools evolve, advertisers and commerce teams will need clearer methods for evaluating whether product data and content are sufficiently structured, comprehensive and relevant for machine-led discovery.
For Amazon-focused brands, the broader implication is that media investment is becoming inseparable from marketplace execution. Winning visibility may depend as much on the quality of the product experience and information layer as on the media budget behind it.
