Advertising infrastructure is moving toward an agentic model in which software agents can handle parts of media discovery, planning, buying, selling and optimization. The shift is extending beyond AI-assisted recommendations toward systems that can execute transactions between buyer and seller environments.

The IAB Tech Lab has also been developing its Agentic Advertising Management Protocols (AAMP) to bring agentic workflows into digital advertising using established standards, buyer and seller agents, and trust mechanisms. Its roadmap includes agentic transaction workflows, reference implementations and governance infrastructure.

Against that backdrop, pubX has announced a $5 million Series A led by Chicago Ventures alongside its acquisition of media quality and governance company Compliant. The acquisition terms were not disclosed.

Technology and Business Impact

pubX is positioning its platform around buyer and seller agents that can work across the advertising transaction lifecycle, from a campaign brief through reporting. The company says its infrastructure is built on the open Ad Context Protocol (AdCP) and is designed to allow agents on the demand and supply sides to interact directly.

The acquisition brings Compliant’s media quality and governance capabilities into that workflow. Its Data Integrity and CTV Quality Indexes are intended to provide signals that influence media-selection decisions before an agent executes a purchase.

For advertisers and agencies, the model could reduce manual work around campaign planning, inventory evaluation and transaction execution while retaining human approval points. pubX says clients determine the level of agent autonomy and establish the commercial rules within which agents operate.

For publishers, the proposition is different. Buyer agents can discover inventory based on publisher audiences, environments and first-party data rather than relying exclusively on traditional sales channels. That could make machine-readable inventory quality and publisher metadata increasingly important to media monetization.

Strategic Outlook

The combination of agentic execution and media governance reflects a broader industry challenge: automation cannot scale effectively if advertisers cannot understand or control how AI systems make buying decisions.

This is becoming an active standards issue. IAB Tech Lab’s AAMP framework explicitly emphasizes trust, transparency and interoperability, while its Agent Registry is designed to provide information about agent identity and capabilities.

pubX’s integration of Compliant therefore places media-quality signals closer to the transaction itself. If agentic buying expands, quality, governance and auditability may become infrastructure requirements rather than separate verification steps.

The funding will support U.S. expansion, development of pubX’s demand-side business and continued development of its buyer and seller agents. The company also plans to integrate Compliant’s signals across its platform.
