TYT Taps Airwave to Expand Monetization Across Podcast and Video Inventory

Independent digital publishers are increasingly looking beyond individual platforms to monetize audiences across podcasts, video, streaming and live programming. The Young Turks (TYT) is taking that approach through a new partnership with Airwave, which will become the exclusive third-party advertising sales representative for a defined portfolio of TYT inventory, including premium Google Ad Manager 360 inventory.

TYT has partnered with Airwave to expand advertising sales across a portfolio of its premium podcast, digital video and live programming inventory, bringing another independent media property into a broader effort to unify monetization across fragmented digital channels.

Under the agreement, Airwave will serve as TYT’s exclusive third-party advertising sales representative for the selected inventory. The portfolio includes premium Google Ad Manager 360 inventory associated with YouTube’s partner sales program, alongside TYT’s podcast, digital video and live content.

The arrangement is notable because independent publishers increasingly need to manage audiences that no longer sit inside a single media format. A viewer may discover TYT through YouTube, consume a podcast later in the day and encounter its programming through streaming or social platforms. Monetizing that audience effectively requires advertising infrastructure and sales capabilities that can operate across those environments.

Airwave is positioning itself as that commercial layer for TYT.

Rather than building every advertiser relationship and sales function internally, TYT can use Airwave’s advertising sales operation to bring its inventory to agencies and brands. For advertisers, the proposition is access to a portfolio of independent-media inventory through an established sales organization.

The partnership also highlights the continuing importance of Google Ad Manager 360, particularly for publishers managing premium digital inventory. GAM provides publishers with tools for managing, serving and monetizing digital advertising, while YouTube’s partner ecosystem creates additional opportunities for media companies with established video audiences.

For independent publishers, the challenge is not simply generating audience. It is converting that audience into sustainable advertising revenue while maintaining control over content, distribution and commercial relationships.

That challenge becomes more complicated as podcasting, digital video, connected television and creator-led media converge. Podcast advertising has historically relied heavily on direct sales and host-read formats, while digital video has developed around programmatic and platform-based monetization. CTV adds another layer, with inventory distributed through streaming platforms and increasingly sophisticated advertising marketplaces.

Airwave’s relationship with TYT reflects the industry’s movement toward commercial infrastructure that can span these formats.

The partnership also comes as TYT develops a broader business strategy under Chief Business Officer Praveen Singh. While Singh’s appointment itself is not an AdTech development, her stated focus on advertising, distribution, partnerships and new revenue opportunities gives the Airwave agreement a larger commercial context.

For advertisers, the potential benefit is straightforward: independent media brands can offer differentiated audiences and premium programming, but agencies need scalable ways to access that inventory. Third-party sales representation can reduce the friction between publishers seeking monetization and advertisers seeking reach beyond the largest media platforms.

The competitive landscape includes major publisher monetization platforms, ad exchanges, programmatic marketplaces and large media-sales organizations. Independent publishers must compete for advertiser budgets against platforms operated by Google, Amazon, Meta and other large technology companies that combine audience scale with sophisticated advertising infrastructure.

That makes differentiated inventory increasingly important. Premium news, politics, podcasts and creator-led programming can provide advertisers with contextual environments and highly engaged audiences, but publishers still need the sales infrastructure to turn that engagement into revenue.

TYT’s partnership with Airwave illustrates one route: combine a publisher’s content and audience with an external commercial operation capable of packaging and selling inventory across formats.

The larger AdTech question is whether independent media can build sustainable businesses by connecting fragmented inventory without becoming dependent on a single distribution platform. As video, audio and streaming continue to converge, publishers that can package their audiences across channels may have a stronger proposition for advertisers looking for alternatives to the largest digital platforms.

Market Landscape

Publisher monetization is becoming increasingly fragmented as audiences move between YouTube, podcasts, connected TV, streaming services, websites and social platforms.

Google Ad Manager remains an important component of digital publisher monetization, while programmatic exchanges and supply-side platforms provide additional routes to market. Podcast publishers, meanwhile, continue to combine direct sponsorships, host-read advertising and automated advertising technologies.

The opportunity for independent publishers is to package premium audiences across these formats while giving advertisers predictable access and measurement. Third-party sales organizations such as Airwave can provide an alternative to publishers developing large internal sales operations.

The broader market is also moving toward convergence between creator media, podcasting, digital video and CTV. That convergence increases the value of cross-format inventory packages—but also raises questions around audience duplication, measurement, brand safety and frequency management.

For independent media companies, monetization infrastructure is becoming almost as important as audience growth.
